DxO PhotoLab (formerly DxO Optics Pro) - image quality processing software of reference for all demanding photographers. DxO PhotoLab introduces a comprehensive local retouching solution that is fully integrated into a non-destructive RAW workflow and includes former Nik Software's U Point technology; an auto mask brush; a graduated filter; and a new Repair tool. In addition to these brandnew features, its RAW-file automatic Lens Sharpness correction feature has also been dramatically enhanced.

DxO OpticsPro becomes DxO PhotoLab
First released thirteen years ago, DxO OpticsPro revolutionized image processing with the first software-based optical corrections based on laboratory-grade mathematical models. Today DxO OpticsPro represents a complete RAW conversion solution that has far outgrown its initial scope, with unique features like DxO PRIME, the gold standard in noise reduction technology, and DxO Smart Lighting, an intelligent exposure tool. By adding powerful local adjustment tools, DxO OpticsPro now gives photographers new creative opportunities and ushers in a new era. Thus, DxO is proud to highlight this important evolution by giving its award-winning software a new name that reflects its power and versatility: DxO PhotoLab.

• Graduated filters: Simulate graduated ND Filters and locally adjust exposure, contrast, vibrancy, and other settings.
• Automatic Repair tool: Remove undesired elements from your image and enjoy faster processing and seamless image results.

U Point Technology
Based on Control Points, U Point technology lets you make precise selections with little effort:
1. Set a Control Point over the area to adjust – this selects all pixels with similar color within an adjustable radius.
2. If necessary, set additional Control Points to extend your selection, or set a Neutral Point to exclude an area.
3. Use the adjustment sliders over the image to set exposure, contrast, microcontrast, vibrancy, sharpness, blur, and white balance within the selected area.
To access Control Points and other local adjustment tools, click on the “Local adjustments” button in the main toolbar.

Local Adjustment Tools
DxO PhotoLab complements U-Point technology with other selection tools that can adapt to any situation:
• Graduated Filter, particularly useful with landscape pictures
• Brush (with and without Auto Mask), for precise selection work
These tools give you access to the same adjustments as Control Points (i.e. exposure, contrast, microcontrast, vibrancy, sharpness, blur and white balance).

New Repair Tool
The new Repair Tool effectively removes unwanted elements from your pictures:
1. Click the “Object removal” button in DxO PhotoLab’s main toolbar.
2. Simply adjust the brush’s radius and paint the object to be removed — it’s that simple!

New Lens Sharpness
A DxO exclusive, the Lens Sharpness correction taps into a database of more than 40,000 calibrated lens-body combinations to optimize the details and sharpness of your pictures:
• Each pixel is corrected individually, based on its position in the field, together with the gear and shooting parameters you used.
• The new correction yields much better results at mid- and high-ISO sensitivities.
• For even better results, use this correction in combination with DxO PhotoLab’s PRIME noise reduction engine.

By purchasing U Point technology from Google Nik Software, DxO has breathed new life into its flagship software with the addition of local adjustment technology. DxO OpticsPro is now DxO PhotoLab!

From day one, the French company DxO has stood out for its expertise in image quality. It began by introducing optical corrections based on precise analyses of lenses on the market. The company also made waves when it introduced its high-performance noise-correction algorithm, PRIME, and its automatic optimization feature, DxO Smart Lighting. In fact, DxO has been so successful that after thirteen years of progress and improvement, it decided to change the name of its software to DxO PhotoLab to better reflect its wide range of features.

Control Point selection tool
U Point technology is one of the software’s highlights and is sure to please the many users who were disappointed when Nik Software and Capture NX2 products dropped the feature. By adding a Control Point selection tool to DxO PhotoLab, DxO makes local adjustments easier with a quick, precise auto mask that’s been proven effective through the many years it’s been in use. To apply the mask, all you have to do is place a point inside the area you want to correct, then alter the radius of the mask to shrink or expand the selection, which is based on the colors in the image. These control points can be moved or combined to apply the same correction to different areas of the image. You can also add control points to create several distinct masks. If you need a more precise selection, you can also use negative control points to exclude certain areas. Once you add a control point, vertical adjustment sliders appear automatically, allowing you to alter the area’s exposure, contrast, micro-contrast, vibrancy, sharpness, blur, and color temperature. They are also paired with the software’s other local correction tools, such as the gradient filter.

Gradient filter
The gradient filter is useful for editing landscape photography, especially when the sky is much brighter than the ground. Just right-click and move the mouse to establish the limits for the filter. Above the first point, the correction will be fully applied. The effect will disappear completely after the second point. The greater the distance between the two points, the more gradually the correction will be applied. To make the two areas of the mask easily visible, DxO PhotoLab highlights them in blue. The vertical sliders appear automatically when you apply the mask. When you select one of these adjustment options, the others temporarily disappear so you can concentrate on applying the tool’s effects to your image. Furthermore, DxO PhotoLab will let you preview your adjustments in real time. You can combine the gradient filter with the Brush tool to add or delete an area from the mask, such as when an object goes beyond the horizon line. DxO is planning to add a radial filter with the next update.

The brush is a classic tool in photo editing programs. Whether you’re using it to adjust a gradient filter mask or to manually paint an area in the photo, the DxO PhotoLab Brush offers all the typical features of this tool, including a size adjustment slider and the option to manage edge definition, allowing you to apply very precise corrections or to make more diffuse adjustments. You can also adjust these settings using keyboard shortcuts instead of the sliders. With DxO PhotoLab, you can create several masks and apply separate adjustment settings for each one. You can also extend the effects applied to one mask to another area in the image. While there isn’t a window listing all the edits you’ve made to an image, you can undo and redo your corrections as much as you want, as well as display before and after comparisons for each type of correction.

Automatic corrections
Starting with the earliest versions of its DxO OpticsPro software, DxO has always made automatic corrections a priority, allowing users to enjoy optimal photo adjustments regardless of their editing expertise. We are pursuing this goal by adding to the local adjustments menu an automatic mask tool that you use like a brush. This tool is applied like a brush over the mask area. You should go slightly beyond the edges of the area you wish to correct so DxO PhotoLab can analyze the tones and contrast of the section and automatically establish the edges of the mask. You can use the same vertical sliders that accompany other tools to apply additional corrections as needed. Regardless of the tool you use to apply local adjustments, the adjustment equalizer is designed to appear next to the area currently being edited. It will always appear on the screen, even if you zoom in and move your field of view to get a better look at your adjustments. You can also display or hide the equalizer by pressing E.

Anti-Dust becomes Repair tool
The anti-dust tool, which was included in the latest versions of DxO OpticsPro, has been revamped and renamed Repair tool. While this tool was often criticized for being too slow, Repair tool now features even more powerful algorithms to process image data at a much faster rate. After you manually select the areas you want to delete, DxO PhotoLab uses the content of the image to apply an automatic correction without altering the brightness or color of the surrounding pixels. You can resize the tool using the dedicated slider or keyboard shortcuts, for seamless textures.

Improved Lens sharpness
Thanks to an improved algorithm, this feature now provides even more effective results by emphasizing the image locally and making the photo appear sharper. The software applies the effect automatically, based on laboratory lens calibrations, but you can always modify the changes using the options provided on the adjustment panel.
